Privacy and cookies policy
How Africa Strategia handles your personal data and uses (or does not use) cookies on this site.
Data controller
The controller of the personal data collected on this site is the association Africa Strategia (Afstrat), a non-profit association (loi 1901, RNA W751283940), whose registered office is at 32 Rue Juliette Savar, 94000 Créteil, France.
Contact for any question about personal data: contact.afstrat@gmail.com.
Data collected and purposes
Contact form: name, email address and message, used only to reply to your request.
Briefing subscription: email address, used only to send you Africa Strategia’s periodic strategic analysis.
Membership, donation and member account: name, email address, country, optionally postal address and phone, membership category, payment amount and date. This data is used to manage your membership, collect your fee or donation and send you a receipt. Your card or Mobile Money details never pass through our servers: they are entered with the payment provider.
We collect no other personal data and do not sell or pass on your data to third parties.
Legal basis
Processing is based on your consent, given by ticking the box provided in each form, and, for replies to your contact requests, on our legitimate interest in replying to people who write to us.
For membership and donations, processing is based on carrying out your request and on our accounting obligations. Subscribing to the Briefing through the checkout tick box is based on your consent.
Recipients and hosting
Your data is accessible only to authorised members of Africa Strategia. The site is hosted by Hostinger International Ltd., 61 Lordou Vironos Street, 6023 Larnaca, Cyprus, which acts as a technical processor.
Payments are handled by the providers offered at checkout: Stripe, PayPal and Revolut for payments in euros, Flutterwave for Mobile Money in CFA francs. Briefing contacts and members may be managed in the Brevo mailing tool. Some of these providers may process data outside the European Union, with the safeguards required by the GDPR (for example standard contractual clauses).
Retention period
Messages sent via the contact form are kept for at most 3 years after the last exchange. The Briefing email address is kept until you unsubscribe.
Order and payment data is kept for at most 10 years (accounting obligations). The member account is kept while the membership is active, then for at most 3 years after it ends.
Your rights
In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the French Data Protection Act, you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction and portability of your data, as well as the right to withdraw your consent at any time. To exercise them, write to contact.afstrat@gmail.com.
If you believe your rights are not being respected, you may lodge a complaint with the CNIL (www.cnil.fr).
Cookies and trackers
This site installs no audience-measurement, advertising or tracking cookies. Outside the payment page, it uses no third-party font, map or statistics service: the site’s resources are served from the site itself. On the payment page, payment providers load their own scripts.
Only cookies strictly necessary for the site’s technical operation (for example form security) may be set, and these do not require your consent.
When you pay or log in to the member area, WordPress and WooCommerce set technical cookies (session, cart, login: for example woocommerce_cart_hash, woocommerce_items_in_cart, wp_woocommerce_session_*, wordpress_logged_in_*). They are strictly necessary for the service you request and do not require your consent. On their own payment pages, Stripe, PayPal, Revolut and Flutterwave may set their own cookies: their policies apply.
If Africa Strategia introduces an audience-measurement tool or other trackers, a banner will let you accept or refuse them before anything is set, and this page will be updated.
Social networks and external links
The links to LinkedIn and Facebook are simple links: no module from these networks is loaded on this site. Once you are on those platforms, their own privacy policies apply.
Update
This policy may change. Last updated: October 2026.
